She Said Yes...

I figured I'd better tell the proposal story before I get too much into the planning details, I suppose its pretty important! Well, Mr. is pretty romantic. He isn't cheesy, his romance level is appreciated. One Saturday in August 2010 we decided to go out for brunch...our first 'free' Saturday in a while, so we wanted to relax. I told him to plan the day (we often switch making plans for one another for fun), so we started out at my favorite breakfast place, Denny's. We spent the next few hours driving around, going to different place that had some significance to us (and no I had absolutely no idea, clueless!). We went to the first house we offered on, where we went on our first date, to look at puppies, just random things. We went to the University because that's where I lived in rez for four years. We got out and walked around. It was so super windy I didn't want to walk to where we first met...the University bar. It's so out of the ordinary that we met there because we really aren't 'bar people.' (If you can label people that). He insisted since that's where 'it all started.' As we got closer I started to get somewhat suspicious, but I thought, oh my, I'm jumping to conclusions! Turns out I wasn't. Right outside the bar he got a little nervous and shaky. It was a Saturday, so no one was even around. He said some things about loving me and he always would, but I was so excited and nervous too I was just looking at how cute he looked at that moment. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him...and I said "OH MY GOD ARE YOU SERIOUS?!" And he said yes, and then I said yes, and then he showed me the beautiful ring he had got me that I was too excited to see in the first place. And that's how it went. We went for supper to a great restaurant called Pasta Prima in town (so delicious-and you can buy home made pasta there any time on its own). We spent the rest of the weekend just hanging out and enjoying each other's company. Oh yes-and I also bought my first wedding magazine the day after...can you say excited? Today marks 50 months that we've been together...cheers my love!

These are a few pics I took the day after we got engaged out in the countryside. I was all smiles (and still am!)

This Little Light of Mine

From the get go, my fiancee (Tys) and I decided to stick to a budget. We want a nice wedding, but we want a fun honeymoon too. So with the wedding six months away, we have been slowly searching for low-priced, but fantastic decor. The other day we were shopping at Superstore from some groceries and came across these ugly lanterns...they had red metal bows on them for goodness sake! They were obviously left over from Christmas...and I almost walked right passed them...then I noticed the price, 94 cents each! And they aren't tiny little lanterns either, they're a good size! Tys took a closer look at them and figured he could remove the bows with some maneuvering with his pliers/side cutter. So we loaded up the cart with all 15 of them and did some DIY work...

For $15 I think they will look pretty spiffy down one side of the aisle. More on the cool place we are getting married at later (some nifty trivia: we will be the first people to get hitched there!) And for the record, my sister was on side with the lanterns, she didn't think they were THAT ugly, but either way, they look fantabulous now!

P.S. I don't mind if you borrow the pics that I've taken, just be sure to credit me and when possible, link to my blog. Thanks :)

How To Write Your First Blog Post

I feel really silly writing my first blog post. Possibly because I know no one might even read this. Ever. But just in case someone does…pitter patter let’s get at ‘er.
I was all gung-ho about getting a blog going, mostly to release some of this pent-up need for writing, but when I actually sat down to write my first entry…I was stumped. So what does every great writer do? Well I’m not sure exactly, but I took to the search engine for inspiration! And what do you know, someone named Mark wrote a wonderful little article on just the subject. So here we go:

Who am I? I’m a prairie girl…hence the name of the blog. I like to write, take photos, plan things (like my upcoming wedding), craft, be outside, bake and just about everything in between.  I work in TV, but currently the only time I can watch TV is when I’m at the gym.

Why am I blogging? Good question. I like to write, and don’t do enough of it. (I didn’t say I was good at it either!) It’s also a way for me to start taking more photos. Oh yes and one last reason-I ask my coworkers to blog as part of their job, so I figured it was about time I experience it too.

What will I be blogging about? A bit of this, a bit of that. You may get some crafting happening…you may get some recipes happening, we’ll see what mood I am in. Oh yes – and photos – many photos.

How can you leave feedback? Please leave feedback! Comment, send me links, let’s chat!

Well that was divine. I look forward to blogging with all of you.
Oh yes –and here’s a link to Mark’s blog in case you want to start one of these babies up yourself…http://www.searchengineguide.com/mack-collier/how-to-write-your-first-blog-post.php
